The Rogers Centre, formerly known to most of us all as the SkyDome, is a great multi-use stadium in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, right next to the CN Tower in what’s known as Exhibition Place. The Stadium is home to the Toronto Blue Jays (which is what we went to see there) and also the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League, plus it holds a ton of concerts, speakers, expos not to mention great team stores, a restaurant and even some hotel rooms built-in that actually look into the stadium!! The one thing we absolutely loved about ‘The Dome’ was how it exuded a very Canadian-esqueness; meaning everyone who worked at the stadium were very friendly, and the whole stadium itself was easily the cleanest of all stadiums we have ever been in. The Dome recently had been refurbished to give it a great big LED video board on the outfield which is used during games and also for broadcasting of major events like the World Cup. The Dome sported the first ever retractable roof on the continent, and it is often used which means you will get the best of both worlds depending on your outside weather; and better yet, the Dome recently signed a contract to use emission free generated power so the constant use isn’t wasteful. When the roof is open you can see the uber-tall CN Tower and many of the hi-rise condo/apartment and business buildings that surround it. Best of all, the Dome is incredibly easy to find, being next to the CN Tower, and also very easy to access being close to train stations, the Lake Ontario shore and also a good deal of parking. The Dome, like much all of Toronto, accepts U.S. currency, which is greatly convenient, but gives back change in Canadian, maybe not so convenient but totally understandable; and if you don’t want to hassle with the physical currency, you can always just use credit/debit cards. We’d have to be really picky to tell you anything we didn’t like about the SkyDome considering it as a multi-purpose facility (for the fans). Maybe the one thing is that not all seating in the facility can see the great big videoboard, and also (much like R.F.K. in Washington D.C.) one entire end of the stadium does not have field level seating. For the games itself though, it would really be nice to see them bring in a full infield of playing dirt and better seamed patches of field-turf as it has been complained about by players time to time, but even these few things aren’t great setbacks, a visit to the SkyDome will definitely be a good game day experience. |
