The CN Tower (La Tour CN en Français), on the edge of downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada, was the tallest free-standing structure for over a good 30 years (surpassing the Ostankino Tower of Moscow, Russia in 1975 then finally being surpassed itself in 2007 by the, still under construction, Burj Dubai), and still remains the tallest structure on the American continents at 553.33 meters (1,815.4 ft) tall.

The Tower is located right in downtown Toronto, next-door to the SkyDome/Rogers Centre, and is open to the public daily with an observation deck, glass floor viewing area and the 360 rotating restaurant up top and a glass elevator ride to get you up there. It’s not really possible to get to the very top of the tower as it’s topped with a large communications antenna, but that doesn’t mean it’s not extremely high.

The view from the glass floored section alone will give you chills, that is, if you can even get yourself to walk on it. In fact you’ll know when you’ve stumbled on the glass section because suddenly you’ll see all these people creeping around to walk and grabbing each other for balance; definitely amusing all in itself. In addition to the glass floor, all the views from atop the tower are amazing, allowing you to see Toronto in its entirety, right down into the SkyDome and across Lake Ontario on a clear day.

It is not free to get admission to the top of the tower but it’s not a wallet-busting ticket and well worth it. And while we’ve heard the food is good, we can’t speak for the rotating 360 restaurant because we were low on time, plus the budget is a little high there. The waiting is something you will want to plan for, as it can be upwards of 1-2 hours wait if you pick the wrong time to go. We’d also recommend being around in the evening/night so you can see the tower all lit up, but don’t worry about having to stick around the tower to see that as the Tower can easily be seen from anywhere in Toronto.
